Here's to new beginnings

Each year, Harbour.Space University showcases the capstone projects of its graduating class in an annual Graduation Day. And each year, the designer for the branding of the event is chosen through a design challenge in which students from the Barcelona and Bangkok campus take part. My direction and designs were chosen this year!

Harbour.Space needed an array of print and digital materials for the graduation event and for the welcome pack for new incoming students, all while united under a striking and cohesive visual identity. They asked me to develop the event’s branding materials, along with posters, graduation scarves, roll-ups, social and web graphics, stickers, t-shirts, tote bags, etc.

Graduates are entering a new, important phase in life and in their careers. Incoming students are also embarking on a new journey. For both groups, it is a phase of transition, of progress, and of transformation.

The concept “new beginnings” is a representation of the professional and emotional transformation that students/graduates will go through. I wanted to represent this concept through the use of gradient transitions representing the professional and emotional change that students and graduates will be experiencing.

Composition of this transition in different ways as we all have our different speeds/methods of transitioning. This also creates complexity and depth that opens up the graphic to be perceived in different, abstract ways.

Reimagining the Harbour.Space Purple

I decided to combine the infamous HS purple (it's everywhere) with bright, complementary colours while using gradients. I went with really contrasting, neon colours, symbolising this big transition with an iredescant, modern look/feel.

Contrasting Neons

I chose to introduce a new typeface, Whyte Inktrap from Dinamo Type, that is quiet enough to contrast the visuals and graphics used, but at the same time has enough personality and character. The vowels in each heading can be italicised to create an interesting look and symbolise forward movement.
